Manchester United made history this afternoon as they lifted their 19th English top flight title, eclipsing Liverpool’s 18.

Their 19th title came in the 19th season of the Premier League, of which Manchester United have now won 12 of these. Sir Alex Ferguson has been at the helm of all dozen, with Ryan Giggs also collecting a winners medal each time. Both Ferguson and Giggs have 1 medal less than the history of Arsenal Football Club.

Manchester United came into this game needing just 1 point to claim the title and made hard work of it when they went behind midway through the first half when Brett Emerton volleyed home.

Tomasz Kuszczak had a torrid time in the Manchester United goal and it will be interesting to see if he gets another chance next week when they play Blackpool in the final league game of the season before they face Barcelona in the Champions League final.

Martin Olsson came close to doubling Blackburn’s lead just after the hour, but his header came back off the post with Kuszczak well beaten.

Apart from a Nani header that came back off the bar inside 4 minutes, Manchester United rarely tested the opposition goal. That all changed in the 70th minute when Javier Hernandez raced onto a through ball and appeared to be tripped by Paul Robinson in the penalty area.

Referee Phil Dowd took his time to award the decision after discussing with his assistant. TV replays showed Chicharito taking a tumble, but the penalty was given none-the-less. Wayne Rooney duly converted.

The game died out in the remaining 20 minutes as both teams were happy to take a point, queuing the celebrations as the final whistle was blown.

With Chelsea falling apart from mid-November and Arsenal bottling it at the end of the season, Manchester United have been the best of the challengers this season and therefore deserving Premier League winners. They will finish the season with a maximum of 80 points; 5 more than when they claimed title number 11 in 1997; the lowest points tally to win the English top flight since it rebranded in 1992.

The FA announced on Monday that Wayne Rooney will be suspended for two games following his tirade in front of the camera following his third goal at Upton Park on Saturday.

Coming from 2-0 down at half time, Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick in less than quarter of an hour to turn the match on its heard. Following his third goal, from the penalty spot Wayne Rooney showed his emotion by shouting those three famous words in the direction of the cameraman to a live audience.

Wayne Rooney has until 18:00 GMT on Tuesday to appeal. Should Manchester United’s 10-goal striker accept the punishment, he would miss Saturday’s Premier League game with Fulham at Old Trafford, followed by the following weekend’s big derby with Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final.

In February, Wayne Rooney scored a spectacular winner in the Premier League over the Reds local rivals; the start of a 3 game scoring streak; the only consecutive games he has scored in this season so far.

Manchester United remain in the hunt for the treble – 7 points clear of second place Arsenal in the Premier League following last weekend’s results. On Wednesday, Chelsea are the hosts in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final. And next weekend is the FA Cup semi final where Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking to reach his 9th final.

Wayne Rooney turned provider as he setup Javier Hernandez inside 5 minutes to give Manchester United the lead in the tie last night with Marseille.

Between his first and second goal, Marseille’s chances were limited, although Andre-Pierre Gignac could have done better when one-on-one as he harmlessly lofted the ball over Edwin van der Sar’s goal, and Souleymane Diawara had a great opportunity to head home from a corner. Instead, the ball came off the side of his head and well wide. Former United defender Gabriel Heinze also missed with a headed chance.

Javier Hernandez added a second with quarter of an hour to go in what was set to seal the deal, until Wes Brown headed into his own net from a corner with 7 minutes remaining. There were nerves around Old Trafford, but Manchester United held on to progress into the final eight.

Didier Deschamp’s side were poor over two legs and didn’t cause too much threat. But the main talking point after last night’s game has been Javier Hernandez and what a star he’s turning out to be. The young Mexican now has 16 goals in all competitions this season; more than Wayne Rooney but 4 short of Dimitar Berbatov’s tally.

With this strike force, United are well-equipped to lift some silverware come the end of the season. Currently leading the Premier League, in the semi finals of the FA Cup and now into the quarter finals of the Champions League. How many trophies will Manchester United win this season?

Nani’s goal was brilliant, followed by lucky deflected City’s goal that made the score even 1-1. But Wayne’s over head beauty was surely made any United supporters’ day.

A win on Derby day always feel good, but the most important thing is we’re getting closer to our 19th EPL title.

Hope this year is our year. Come on lads!

Ahead of our trip to White Hart Lane, Harry Redknapp wrote at The Sun and he thinks Manchester United won’t last this season unbeaten. Tottenham Hotspurs will be the first team from the big 4 we will face away. It will be hard to get points at their home. Anything could happen. What Redknapp missed though, the other clubs are not that good as well to beat United. So far at least :p

Though remains unbeaten is not the most important thing, but it will be nice to achieve that milestone in our club’s history. It’s getting harder to stay unbeaten in a league as competitive as English Premiere League, but who knows?

On other news, Sir Alex is confident that Van Der Sar, Rooney and Vidic will return for the Spurs match.

Keep the believe. Come on United!
