Sorry for my language but it’s a common expression in heavy music community. As most of you haven’t probably know, i used to be in a hardcore band playing heavy music for about 10 years. I play guitar, arrange and produced most of our songs. We’ve released 3 self financed albums, our singles included in 10 local and international independent bands compilation releases, and played at almost every big cities in Indonesia in front of 10 – 10.000 audiences almost every week during our musical days. Yeah i was well known among the youths here in Indonesia. In 2002 we disbanded the band, i went to graduate business school, working at corporate jobs for several years until decided to run my own business at home here in Kuta, Bali earlier this year.
Enough about me.
As a musician, it’s a super cool feeling to find cool new independent musician that is cool enough but yet goes mainstream. To be able to be received by bigger audiences, sell lots of records and get booked (for shows etc), beside producing good products (music, image, and any other rock brand gimmicks), a cool new band need to prove themselves in a bigger arena, et cetera… constantly. Constantly like everytime they show for public, they must be constantly good.
However, a cool new band is a cool new band. They’re talented, plays good music and… they’re f**cking cool as hell. Someday somehow, if they can prove themselves, they will become well know musicians.
So, we call these cool young bands a S**T. The expression is like, ‘dude this is the shit’ or like ‘man your band is the shit’ or ‘dude your album is the shit’ kinda things.
After watching the game against Peterborough and Juventus last night, i kinda feel that feeling again. Which is what i mean by the title of this post.
