Queiroz to Spain: Take Colombus, Leave Ronaldo Alone
Thoughts, other teams, players May 29th, 2008
Reds no. 2 feels Madrid’s outspoken courting of his Portuguese compatriot is about more than their wish to get Ronaldo, claiming it is part of the long history and rivalry between Portugal and Spain.
Queiroz also claim that
“It’s being done in a manner to distract the Portugal team, at the height of their preparations for the European Championships,”
Well it’s a super freaking big attack from our 2nd boss to the Spanish club.
Now to Colombus, claiming someone nationality sounds too strange to me. So I decide to check Christopher Colombus’s Wikipedia page, and found no clear indication whether the Admiral of the Ocean Sea is either Portuguese or Spanish (or even Italian).
The best related story to Colombus that i could find is this:
Academic consensus establishes that he was born in Genoa, although other minor theories have been posited. The name Christopher Columbus is the Anglicization of the Latin Christophorus Columbus. Also well known are his name’s rendering in modern Italian as Cristoforo Colombo, in Portuguese as Cristóvão Colombo (formerly Christovam Colom), and in Spanish as Cristóbal Colón.
And, the fact that, he was born in Italy and died in Spain.
From IMDB database (regarding Christoper Colombus - The Discovery Movie) Colombus also has several aliases like:
Cristóbal Colón: el descubrimiento Argentina / Spain
Christophe Colomb: La découverte France
Christopher Columbus - äventyraren Sweden
Christopher Columbus - Der Entdecker Germany
Cristóvão Colombo - A Aventura do Descobrimento Brazil
Cristoforo Colombo: la scoperta Italy
Hristoforos Kolomvos: I anakalypsi tis Amerikis Greece
Kolumb odkrywca Poland
Kolumbus - seikkailijoista suurin Finland
Well things is beginning to be absurd as i don’t know that much about history.
But whatever Christopher Colombus actual nationality is:
- He’s so cool and it is worth to have somebody like him representing your nation.
- Ronaldo is a Portuguese and plays for Manchester United.
- Real Madrid is weird.
